new and old vintage baby quilt

What do you do when you run into a project that you shouldn’t have time for because you already have 3 other projects very similar to it that you have not finished?  This was the case this week.  The girls quilts, which are almost finished but still need an edging and to be machine quilted have been laying, hanging over my banisters waiting to be finished for three very eager owners to use on their beds.  Every time I turn the corner, there they are inviting me to sit down and do a bit of work.

Then I take a small detour into a thrift shop and through no fault of my own (I promise) I run into a bag full of already cut squares of the sweetest vintage fabrics.  The tag says they are all fabrics from the 50’s though I do see some squares that have a 70’s and 80’s theme spread out in the pile of fabrics.  Someone must have been working on these squares for quite some time.  Cutting a square here and there as their time allowed.  There are definitely some very old fabrics in here as well as some that could have been from my own 80’s childhood.  Some squares seem to be from suit shirts and old clothing.  It begs the question.  Who cut all of these squares, why didn’t they finish it and who would ever donate a bag such as this one.

It was all too much for me.  Surely, I should buy it.  I look at the price tag, $4.  Yes, I will, and I will make this quilt.

After I layed them all out, they are exactly enough to make a small quilt for sitting or laying in the grass.  A distraction from the quilts I should be working on, yes.  It took only a day to get them all sewn up.  Really a few hours stolen here and there among other things that must be done.  Before I knew it, I was putting on the biased edging which was already in the bag.  You see, someone already planned this sweet little quilt out.  All I have done, is finish their work.

I have seen these little quilts before and most of them are not quilted but tied, so I tied it.  I love it and so does Matthew who has now caught his momma’s sickness and loves blankets and quilts.

So, what project called your attention this week?  Please do share, but even if you don’t I have decided to not linger on it.  I will just share with you and call it a day 🙂

Here’s what to do.

1.  Pick a pin you have pinned from your Pinterest boards and do it.

What a sweet lttle quilt. We've all been under the weather here. The most creative thing I did was help my daughter make construction paper hats for her stuffed animals birthday. 🙂

mossgrownstone, I can't take any credit for the design, only the putting together part 🙂 Is yours also small size?

Yes, it's pretty much the same size and colors- just the actual fabric is different. I can't really claim credit for that either- the squares were given to me by my Grandmother I just figured a quilt would be a good way to use them 🙂

I love the quilt you made! You can't help but wonder about the story behind the squares. I was inspired by the pinafore dress you made last week, and made one for myself. I will post it to the pin-along link up later today.

Good morning Tricia, I love this little quilt. A brand new item, that already has a history – a story! The feeling that they have a story is part of what makes a quilt so special for me.
Pru, the daddy daughter dance sounds very elegantly themed, I hope you will be able to add a picture or two later.
Tricia, I have a pin-a-long ready. Says the collection doesn't open for a while though, so I will link up with you when I get home from work later.
Beautiful day here in the Midwest for the first time in weeks. Hope you are all having beautiful spring-like saturdays too.

Good morning! Today is the daddy daughter dance for our homeschool group. The theme is A Night in Paris. We will decorate the tables with inspiration we found on pinterest. The colors are pink and black. There will be mini Eiffel Towers and cheese and fruit plates on the tables. The big event of the night will be the Dad Dance Off (soul train style). Lots of fun will behad by all!

I am NOT tech savvy. Could I add an image to a comment? I took a couple of pics but not many because I was the DJ. The girls, dads, and a couple of baby brothers had a blast!

Pru, I don't think you can a pic in the comments since I don't see anywhere to attach it unless you put the pic in a place like Flickr and then post the link?
