Firstly, thank you all so much for your emails and response to my thoughts on opening a little store here where I can offer the things I make once again.  It is a blessing to have so much encouragement.  Please don’t forget to enter to win that Lego Rosary.

Baby, it’s cold outside.  I thought I would not make it, living here through winter that is, when we found out we would be leaving Florida.  I know it isn’t really winter yet but we have now had a whole lot of snow on the ground for over a week and the cold has not gone away and it seems we are just fine.  Minor inconveniences of having to remember to start the car a few minutes before the kids get in and watching the wood stove to make sure the fire is going are not so bad.  I know what you are thinking right now… I am thinking the same thing and we will see how I feel in another month, or two, or three???  Well, I am proud of us Southerners for so far, we are coping just fine and dare I say, enjoying ourselves immensely.

In between making Sweater baby orders for some of you and all the Lego rosary orders, I have been stealing a minute or two here and there for a special project for Poppa.  It seems that not having hair on ones head does make winter a bit more uncomfortable so Poppa, who has never, ever asked me to knit him anything will be getting a cashmere hat.  One that he has asked for and I couldn’t be more pleased to fulfill this order.  The yarn in a dark grey comes from here.  It is so wonderfully soft to work with but even with doubling up the double stranded yarn, it is taking me some time.

Every night this week, we have been enjoying some quiet reading time.  A few Christmas books, like these favorite Tommy DePaola books and last night the little ones heard this sweet little Christmas story about a momma (ahem) knitting everyone a hat for winter, while this Momma worked on that hat, just like in the book 🙂

Yarning along with Ginny today and back to work I go in the studio.  If you would like to order a Lego rosary, Sunday is the last day I can take the order.  Just send me an email if you like.

We love Tommie dePaola! We have the Early American Christmas book but I didn't know about the La Befana book. I might just have to order that one if my library doesn't have it. He certainly has pumped out quite a few great books. I keep telling myself I am going to take up needle felting so I can make a La Befana for our nature table but I might just have to make one out of wood with the old scroll saw.

I think you will find that as much as you love Florida nothing can beat children you have grown up living by the seasons. There are so many things I will never forget like the statements "the air is crisp", "it smells like spring", the lovely changing of the leaves, jumping in the piles, the flower bulbs that get planted in winter and sprout from the ground in amazing color in Spring. I am happy to have grown up in the north even though I cannot tolerate the cold. Wait till you have your first "Silent Night" walking out from the church after midnight mass in the snow. It is magical.

We lived in South Dakota for over three years and loved every minute of the winters there. There was such a sense of the rhythm of the seasons that we don't have farther south.

    Beautiful hat!

Looks like you'll have a lovely cosy hat when you're done 🙂 Little bit jealous of your snow, it looks so pretty. We don't get much snow in the UK and when we do it doesn't last long. I guess that makes it a bit more magical 🙂

We love An Early American Christmas and Country Angel Christmas too. I just requested the knitting rabbit book, it looks so cute! My husband is from MS and he loves the snow and cold. He rarely wears a coat and says he'd never go back. 🙂 I don't know if I'd go that far, but I do love the change of seasons and the snow.

Oh, the Lego rosarys are awesome! I have never worked with cashmere yarn . . . I'm too cheap! But a hat made from it sounds absolutely lovely. (And of course I drool over the yarn at the LYS!)

I love the color of the yarn! Purple is my favorite. And the rosaries are darling. I wish I had little ones in the house still. We made tons of rosaries with my daughter and her friends when she was little. I loved going into her class and doing it with the students.

We love Tomie dePaola too! And Shall I knit You a Hat? is such a sweet book. We made the opposite move (from Ontario to Texas!) and are also adjusting but looking forward to a milder winter than we are used to.
