Twice a year we support one of our local farms when they ring the come and get up sign for their wonderful sweet corn. It is only a 10 minute drive to this beautiful farm. This year was not as eventful as last because it was raining and the owner was not present. He usually allows us to run through the rows of corn, always a little scary for me because the rows are so long that I can’t see my littles once they have reached the end and with tall corn, you can easily get lost. Of course, that never worries my children. With him being gone to market, the employees did not allow us to enter one foot into the rows and it was also raining.
We picked our corn from the just picked buckets, browsed all the preserves and vinegars and picked a big juicy watermelon because what goes better with raw corn on the cob than watermelon.
The kids did run in the field next to the sale barn and my bigger boys found a place to take a nap and wait while everyone else got some energy out.
I cherish these moments with them. As you may have noticed lately, my oldest daughter is never really in our pictures anymore. Now in her 20’s she has work that calls her and other responsibilities so we have gotten used to having to manage without her. These days remind me of how fast this time with my kids will pass. With this little baby bean in momma’s belly growing more and more everyday, I’m so grateful for the moments when my bigger children stop running through a field to come and have a moment with me. Hopefully, there will always be time for a hug from momma.
Hope your Saturday is wonderful.
