Yesterday I must have lost my mind because this momma, who does not really enjoy going out into situations of crowds, realizing that there were towns nearby who would be trick or treating again decided to take the kids out for another run. We did after all have all the costumes at the ready from the night before. Yes, I decided to google it and found out there was something going on called Malloween.
This would consist of going to a nearby mall and going from store to store. Sounds nice yes? So we got all dolled up again and out we went. We got to the mall a bit early and had a bit of fun getting candy from the stores that had their candy out early. Then after about 15 minutes of this, a swarm of what seemed like hundreds of people showed up and all of a sudden we were in a sea of people. I had actually tolerated being at the mall, it not being my favorite place to be, until this point. In all of five minutes we all started feeling like we wanted to leave. It took about 30 minutes just to get to the entrance which was only a few stores away from where we had begun but we were like salmon swimming back upstream.
The rains fell hard outside the entrance to the mall. We brought the van around and got everyone in and then we thought, OK now what? Well, across the street was a diner announcing free dinner to children dressed for halloween… and at the time it was empty 🙂 I thought for a minute about my gang showing up into this empty diner and the reaction of the employees but we went all the same. By the time we were sitting eating our dinner, the sea of people began to pour in but we were already almost done and the kids had fun seeing everyone elses costumes.
We drove home with full bellies to perform our annual tradition of watching “It’s the great pumpkin Charlie Brown”. Did you ever do that as a kid? I have watched it every year I believe since childhood, even the years when I did not have children hee hee. I lost my mind even further and let Matthew have his first candy… a regular sugar laden lollipop and he loved it, though he did touch us all on the cheeks with his sticky lollipop and ran his hands on every surface in the living room. Homemade popcorn rounded out the night as a bunch of sleepy children slowly disappeared to their beds. I got half way through a little hat for Matthew and then I followed.
Today is All Saints Day and though I have to drive up to Ikea for a new set of bunk beds, oh so needed, I hope to be back in time for some festivities.
So how was your Halloween?
I saw It's the Great Pumpkin for the first time ever! I somehow missed it growing up. We went to our downtown area to trick-or-treat at all the businesses, and had a similar experience. Calm and pleasant at first, and then throngs of kids making it too challenging to move. The local movie theater was showing the movie for free every 40 minutes, so we went. It was my 2.5yo's first movie theatre experience, and she enjoyed it.
isn't it great?? it's so silly but those movies put me in the mood of their holidays. What a great first movie theater experience 🙂
I don’t have children yet, but have not missed watching ANY Charlie Brown holiday special. Love it…ok, I even still watch all of the Christmas cartoon specials that have been around since the 1970s. 😉
oh me too Brandi! no shame 😉
