pulled together

Today I woke to the news that our little town had changed trick or treating to tonight due to expected really bad weather tomorrow on the actual day of  Halloween.  Oh my, and me without even one single costume done.  Truly, I did prepare for this by getting the costumes done while in Florida but somehow we have lost the costumes.  After searching and searching, we can only figure that they are in one of the boxes at the very back of the garage which we just cannot get to that fast without having to remove everyone of the 80 something boxes left to unpack.

I figured we would somehow get it all done today and pull an all nighter to come up with something the kids could wear tomorrow night.  Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans.  I essentially had the rug pulled out from underneath me by todays news and as I sank into a pile of despair on the couch, my big boys jumped into action looking into the costume bins the kids use to play as well as clothing that has already been unpacked and got lots of ideas for me.  Seeing their resolve to get er done, I decided to pull myself together.  We all came up with plans for everyones costume.

With just a few items to be sewn by me, the goal seemed absolutely obtainable.  I have in the past made 6 saints costumes on the eve of All Saints day after all but that was with my craft room all put together.  At best, I have at my disposal right now a sewing machine and a scissor, I don’t even know what box the sewing pins are in.

This is what we came up with.  I think we did alright.  I take pride in my kids wearing momma made costumes but seeing them tonight in a mixture of store bought, previously momma made costumes and regular clothing made me realize that what is really important are the moments.  This moment today when we had to rely on what we have and our imaginations and together somehow, we all pulled it together.
