Times 3 Advent/Christmas/Santa Lucia wreath crochet pattern

Last year, I posted this wreath that Livie wore for Santa Lucia day and got lots of requests for the pattern.  I did not get it posted in time to make one so here it is this year for anyone who is interested.

This is so easy it is hard to call it a pattern but I will describe what you need and how to make one.

Supplies
Wire to form a wreath or my favorite thing to use is an embroidery hoop
Size H hook though you can use any size hook you like
Green yarn, I used worsted weight

Crochet in single stitch all the way around your hoop or wire that you have twisted together to form a hoop.  You want to make sure to make enough stitches to cover the wreath but be careful because if you make too many stitches in this foundation row, you will have to make too many stitches in the following rows and you will soon see why.  Once you have gone all the way around, slip stitch to join to the first stitch.

Row 1:  ch 3, sc in each st all the way around, sl st to first st of row

Row 2:  ch 3, 3 dc in next st, repeat in each st around, sl st to first st of row

Row 3-6: repeat row 2. sl st to first st of row and you are done.  Weave in ends.

I called this pattern The Times 3 wreath because you make 3 stitches into each st and it will get so full that it will start to fold in on itself creating the deep ruffles.  You can add candles to it for Santa Lucia, add a candle holder under it for an Advent Wreath or add berries to it for a Christmas wreath.
