Happy Feast of Saint Patrick

Today started very early in order for the Patticakes crew to make up a cake for a Saint Patrick’s Day party at 3:00 PM.

Here is a view of the top
I wanted to make the cake Catholic instead of just shamrocks and rainbows (although both are very Saint Patrickish) so I wanted to put a picture of Saint Patrick somewhere on the cake.  Although it looks painted on which was the question I got from many people at the party, it is really done more like a puzzle.  I call it piece work.  Again, since I have never had a lesson I have no idea what these methods (if anyone else does this “method”) are called but it works for me.  I drew out Saint Patrick’s picture on paper and then cut out all of the pieces individually from different colors of fondant and layered or put them together to form the picture.  I then did some shadow and accents with watered down gel colors.

The cake was then drowned in Baileys Irish cream, frosted and covered with fondant.

We also made some white chocolate covered green oreo cookies, these were yummy!!
Happy Saint Patrick’s day everyone!!!
