As a cake designer the best compliment I can receive is a repeat customer but when you really like that customer it is so much the better. This is the case with Keaton and his Mom. Keaton’s mom is very particular about her cakes. She knows what she likes and what she does not. She is a brilliant artist herself so I always enjoy the challenge.
This year she wanted a very smallish cake for just her son and a few family members to cut at the Magic Kingdom. She always works his age into the cake somewhere and really likes details.
I happened to be deathly ill (nothing contagious) just painful on the day I had to make her cake so it is my hope that it met her expectations. On top of the misfortune of not feeling well when I got to dying the fondant black I realized that my cake guy sent me dark purple instead of black, oy!!! I refuse to use the all too common and ill tasting stuff from craft stores and so that means making it myself and special ordering which leaves no time to exchange wrong items.
Well, as you can see we figured it out but boy what a doozy. Every cake I have ever made has some challenge, some minor hiccup but it is always fun getting to the end result. Thank you to Keaton and his Momma. Hope to make a cake with a 5 on it next year.
