A newborn hat for a welcoming party

Five weeks to go!  I can hardly believe it though I can certainly feel it.  I have slowed down so much this week.  Every activity is followed by a rest on the couch or rocking chair and I am getting out of bed later and later everyday.  I feel big and heavy and slow but oh so blessed to have this little one with me throughout my day.

It is kind of sneaking up on me and so I have decided to narrow down my ideas and put together a list of what I want to get done before the big day.

Since we are hoping and praying for a home birth, a hat to keep the babies head warm and a pair of mittens to keep that beautiful new face scratch free was first on the list and I can now check it as done.

I am calling it my Welcome to The World hat!  I used this pattern though I changed it up just a bit by making the mittens a little longer in the hand part and shorter in the ribbing and changed the hat by making the ribbing knit 2 purl 2 instead of knit 4 purl 4.  I also learned the turkish cast on which I thought would be so hard.

The rest of my list for right now is:
a quilt for the crib
some sack style pajamas from soft vintage tshirts
newborn sized prefolds
a paper cut art for over the crib
bunting to hang in the window over the crib
a couple more soakers from wool sweaters
finish the Christening gown that I made for JP while I was pregnant with him to which I am making alterations
a gauzey swaddling blanket
a few flannel blankets

I feel like I need everyday that I can get so here is hoping that this baby stays put until they are supposed to be born : )

I am joining my friend Nicole at Frontier Dreams again this week as well as Small Things for the Yarn Along.

Hope to see you tomorrow for the Stash Bash linkup right here with a knitted newborn project and a little something to organize the nursery too!
