Pinterest Pin-along

Pinterest.  A place of inspiration, ideas and beauty.  Also that place where we pin those ideas we love and don’t want to forget.  You are invited to Pin-along with us every Saturday.  It’s a party so bring something to share.  Don’t just pin it, make it, bake it, do it and then share it.

This week, I have been working on quilts for the girls new room.  We have painted away the chocolate brown wall and are getting the room together but the room needed some quilts.  I have been saving these vintage bed sheets for a very long time, some I have had longer than I have had most of my children.  I was saving them for dresses or something else like shopping bags but it seems they were meant for this.  I have the tops of the 3 quilts done and now I just need to add the batting and back and then square it all up and add the binding (my least favorite part).  The girls are so excited and I really am too.  I love quilting with vintage fabrics, they are so soft to touch.

Once I had cut all the squares and sewn them into strips, the hardest and also most fun part of the job was lining up the strips to make three tops without having any of the same fabric squares touching.  We laid them out in our family room and even the little ones helped us find the strips that were repeating and needed to be moved.  It took about an hour and honestly, after a little while all the squares started looking alike but we got it done.  I love projects when even the little ones can jump in to help.

I hope to have it all done in another day which would be day number 3 of working on these quilts.  The last step right now before putting on the back is signing the quilt.  I always embroider a message into a corner of every quilt I make.  These quilts aren’t perfect.  They are full of mistakes but they are also full of love too and that will keep my girls warm 🙂

So what did you make this week?

Here’s what to do.

1.  Pick a pin you have pinned from your Pinterest boards and do it.

2. Take a picture of your project or progress and blog about it or post a picture to flickr.

3. Then come back here on Saturdays and post a link to your blog post (please make sure the link you post is to your Pin-along post and not your main blog)

4. Don’t forget to link back to the Pin-along  so others can find us and get encouraged too.

5.  We all love comments and encouragement so please leave a comment here and visit at least 1 other pinner and leave them a comment  too 🙂
Fair enough?

Below is the link up tool.  Let me know if you need help!

you are invited to a pinterest pin-along party… and a heart filled giveaway

While visiting my favorite thrift store a few weeks ago, I got into a conversation with a lady in her 80’s.  She was telling me about how much she loved Pinterest and how her girlfriends get together on Saturdays to pin stuff.  I asked her how many of those things they have made and she said “oh none but it is fun to pin them”.  Hmmmm, all this time, I was under the impression that people pull inspiration from Pinterest in order to make them, at least some of them.  So for the past few weeks, I have asked a few more people about their Pinterest activities and it seems this is going on everywhere.

Does this sound like you or are you the type that takes inspiration and runs with it?  Perhaps you are just creative and don’t need the inspiration but choose to share what you have made to inspire others….yes, it takes both types to make Pinterest run doesn’t it.

So for the next few months (or longer if it seems like fun) I will be hosting a Pinterest Partay every Saturday!!  A Pin-along for those of you who need a little push to do something with those ideas you pinned or to share your pins with the rest of us.  So, on Saturdays, I will be posting either my Pinterest inspired creation or my own Pinned project and I would love to see what you have done.  The great thing about Pinterest is that everyone can join in.  If you are a baker, knitter, painter, gardener, decorator, partyer, teacher, it is all good.

The only rules will be

1. to include the Pin you used as inspiration or your own Pin in your post

2. to post a link to the Pin-along party so others can join in too

3.  to visit at least one other pinners post and share the love

You can post a link to your blog post, tumbler page, Pinterest page or project, Flicker, or Twitter.

I do need opinions on what to call it.  Pinterest Pin along?  Pinterest Pinning Party?  Pin-along?  Any other ideas?  And what do you think, would you be interested in pinning along with the rest of us?

and here is the fun part.  In order to say thank you for helping me get the word out , I am giving away this cute embroidered love token.  It comes on an embroidery hoop and the back is covered with a grey felt, ready to give to your beloved.  The contest ends next Saturday, February and please make sure I have a way to get in touch with you because it will go out first thing Monday morning since Saint Valentines day is hot on our heels.
