Yarn Along – Knitting on the beach

Day number two of vacation has been so wonderful.  The weather has been wonderful, super hot in the day and balmy and breezy in the evening.

We have spent our days swimming at the pool, playing on the beach, taking naps and eating lots of good food.  I have been knitting in the shade as much as possible.  Last week when I posted that I had received the wrong color of Cascade yarn to work on the knitted swimsuit for Livie, I got a bunch of responses telling me that they had a long wait to receive the correct color.  I was hopeful but told myself not to get my hopes up high.  Then the day before we were leaving for vacation, I found the yarn in my mailbox.  I was so happy.  I’d had visions all week of myself on the beach working on that sweet swimsuit while my kids played happily nearby and now I could make it a reality.

I am loving the springiness of this Cascade fixation yarn.  I just hope I am good enough to make the swimsuit happen.  I read the pattern and I have seen words such as kitcheners stitch and backwards loop cast on and I am getting a little scared : )  Thank goodness for Youtube.

I’m so grateful for this time with all my babies, especially knowing that this is probably the last we will spend with Alexandra before she is on her own.  It has been bitter sweet for Poppa to have stayed home since we have always brought the kids here since Alexandra was born and its just not the same without him.  With him having started working not long ago, having him leave on vacation was not a possibility so he stayed home, feeding the animals and taking care of the farm.  Today he told me he had to chase a chicken into woods and I had to laugh imagining him running and catching a sneaky chicken.

I am Crafting On with my friend Nicole and Yarning along with Small Things again this week.  I will be posting the Stash Bash on Thursday so I hope to see you back here and would love to see your projects.

and of course, there is always time for an evening stroll by the pool.  This is my big girl and I wish I had brought the pictures of her first year here in this same pool to share with all of you.

Corn and fun

Twice a year we support one of our local farms when they ring the come and get up sign for their wonderful sweet corn.  It is only a 10 minute drive to this beautiful farm.  This year was not as eventful as last because it was raining and the owner was not present.  He usually allows us to run through the rows of corn, always a little scary for me because the rows are so long that I can’t see my littles once they have reached the end and with tall corn, you can easily get lost.  Of course, that never worries my children.  With him being gone to market, the employees did not allow us to enter one foot into the rows and it was also raining.
We picked our corn from the just picked buckets, browsed all the preserves and vinegars and picked a big juicy watermelon because what goes better with raw corn on the cob than watermelon.
The kids did run in the field next to the sale barn and my bigger boys found a place to take a nap and wait while everyone else got some energy out.
I cherish these moments with them.  As you may have noticed lately, my oldest daughter is never really in our pictures anymore.  Now in her 20’s she has work that calls her and other responsibilities so we have gotten used to having to manage without her.  These days remind me of how fast this time with my kids will pass.  With this little baby bean in momma’s belly  growing more and more everyday, I’m so grateful for the moments when  my bigger children stop running through a field to come and have a moment with me. Hopefully, there will always be time for a hug from momma.
Hope your Saturday is wonderful.
