baby shower preparations

As I type this, I am sitting on the couch taking a five minute, after midnight breather from all the projects for Alexandra’s baby shower.  I have finished the cake topper, most of the decorations for the party and the candy favors are all sewn up (yes I said sewn).   The cake is baked but not frosted or decorated but I am contemplating doing the decorations after the sun comes up.  My back is starting to hurt and my eyes are burning but I am excited to see Alexandra’s face tomorrow as we celebrate the coming of our first grandchild.  She picked the theme and gave me lots of pictures for inspiration and we rolled with it.

In the morning I will put the pork to roast and make rice.  Alexandra made the beans last night before she headed home with Lewis.   Her favorite food since she stared eating solid food has been beans and rice so that is what she wanted to serve at her shower.  There are lots and lots of hor deurves to make and decorating to do in the barn tomorrow but right now I will leave you with a couple of picture previews to the party.

I will be back Monday morning with all the party details and pictures!!  See you then.

friday night at the movies

Yesterday was a long tiring day of trying to catch up with all the weeds that have grown everywhere but most especially in every garden area and bed.  We are preparing for Alexandra’s baby shower here on Sunday.  Half of us worked outside in scorching heat.  It reminds me why I don’t even bother growing food in the summer.  By the time I got back in, I was dead tired.

Poppa somehow still had the energy to put together a very nice dinner, I love his energy.  After dinner, the kids invited me to the movies.  Not just any movie but the most wonderful movie theater ever complete with snack bar, fresh popped organic cinnamon sugar popcorn, and go as you are attire.

I walked into the living room to find a ticket man waiting (who asked me not to take his picture ahem) with a movie rope to let me into the theater.  The line at the snack counter was quite long so I waited for the crowd to order and then got a nice big bowl of popcorn and a box of candy (I am not a candy person so I only ate a few pieces).  We sat down and watched a few previews before our featured movie, Annie began.

Once the lights were out and the movie speakers were on, it really did feel like we were at a theater except I got to cuddle with Olivia and at some point one of the kids decided to braid my hair while I watched the movie.  Best movie theater ever, I highly recommend it!

This morning I awoke to find the living room as if nothing happened.  Those movie theater cleaners are pretty good.  Today I have a to do list longer than my arm.  Cakes and cupcakes to make, decorations to create, cleaning to do and there is still more weeding out there.  Gotta go!
