Restocking the larder

Sorry I missed posting my rhythms for Friday and Saturday as promised.  I had a little episode of vertigo.  Someone (who shall remain nameless) thought our house smelled too “natural” and sprayed a homemade air freshener from a chemical stew called fabric softener.  Apparently I found out that my one of my children likes the smell of this stuff on her clothes.  Growing up in a house where our clothes just smells clean means that she never smelled like her other friends and she wanted that smell.  So, she sprayed it and I breathed it in and ended up with a hot pain in my brain and I started feeling really dizzy. Within 10 minutes I was in full blown vertigo and in bed.  SO I promise to post my Friday and Saturday rhythm this week.

Today I had to go do my shopping since Saturday I was down.  I drove all the way to Whole Foods and so I took along the camera so I could share it with you.  I had lots to buy today and I took along my favorite shopping buddy.

I usually take my reusable bulk food bags with me but I left the bag of them in my foyer.  I was not happy thinking that these thin bags would break with my grains in it.  When I got home I had a ton of these little bags left over.  What can you do with these? anyone?

my favorite aisle at the store.  I spend a whole lot of time here since the bulk of what I buy is in the bulk bins.  I love buying exactly how much I need of nuts, grains or wheat.  It is also a lot less expensive.

woo-hoo our favorite breakfast granola is on sale.  This might seem really expensive but when you think that for $4.00 you are buying 16 ounces of it and the junky cereal in boxes costs about that much (unless you have a coupon) and those boxes are usually about 12 ounces, its not so bad.  Plus, a little granola with yogurt or milk fills you much more than a big bowl of cereal so you use less.

My favorite natural food colorings… anyone know of a cheaper source for these, I go through them fast and they are expensive

  new natural bristle tooth brushes.
Today I bought, wheat berries, wheat bran, quinoa, sesame seeds, popcorn, sweet brown rice, raisins, almonds, granola, yellow split peas, golden flax, large flake nutritional yeast, a hunk of parmesan cheese, two goat cheese logs, brown rice syrup,  sucanat, diced tomatoes, beans, pasta, some new sponges and a scrubber (hopefully more on this later), dishwashing liquid, castile soap, sesame candies, tooth brushes, and a few other things I can’t remember 🙂
What do you buy when you go to the grocery store?

at the vineyard

As the sweet lazy days of summer are running out, I woke up remembering that I wanted to take the kids to go pick some grapes.  Our part of Florida is host to many varieties of grapes which are grown here.  I called the vineyard and they were closed but when I mentioned 8 kids who wanted to pick grapes, they opened it just for us so we got to go and pick all by ourselves… it was wonderful.

Mostly variations of muscadine grapes, huge, plump, pop out of their skins juicy grapes awaited us.

we each got a bucket and we were off
this variety is called Black Beauty
a little break from picking

she definitely ate more grapes than she put in her bucket

and I am happy to report, I figured out where all the missing bees have gone, they have all come to this vineyard to sip some grape juice.  We were warned about the bees. We did see them everywhere but they never bothered us.

and then it was time to go home, with 18 pounds of locally grown, organic grapes.  Stay tuned for grape jelly coming soon.
