Stash Bash : Make your own wooden buttons tutorial

I’ve never met a crafter without a stash of some kind. This year my goal is to use up all the craft supplies I have spent money on that are taking up mental and physical space in my life.

As promised yesterday,  if you have been wanting to put some cute wooden buttons on your projects but the cost is prohibiting you, here is a fast tutorial on my wooden buttons.  These can be easily distressed, sanded to make them not look so perfect, stained polished and painted depending on the look you are going for.  The best part is they cost pennies for each one.  This is where I get them but I am sure there are lots of places to get them.

You will need:

wood circles whatever size you like
wood drill and drill bit the size you want the holes in the button to be
wood clamp
piece of scrap wood
pencil to mark holes

with a pencil, mark where the holes will be drilled

clamp the wood circle to your scrap piece of wood and drill through your holes

you can lightly sand the holes if you want to, I didn’t need to.  Just brush off the buttons.  At this point you could distress the buttons, stain or polish with a beeswax polish or just use them as is.

Enjoy your new buttons!!

So what have you been up to? I love to see what you come up with. I have added the Mr Linky to the bottom of this post for you to link up your Stash Bash projects.

Here’s what to do. There are no rules.
Just use what you have and try to not buy new supplies, unless you need it to complete a project that you are making from stuff you already have in your stash.

In the nick of time

Are the holidays coming too fast for anyone else other than just me?  The calendar is tick tocking and I am working to get it all done in time.  Presents, decorations and meals to be made as well as memories.

I won’t get to see my parents this year which is so sad but at the same time my Momma is going home to NYC so I couldn’t be happier for her.  Today I sent her present knowing that today is the cutoff for Christmas delivery.  I had mentioned her gift here and it was almost done.  I finished it the next day and then put it away and forgot about the buttons until this morning when it had to be out the door.

It’s my own pattern.  I understand it, but I am not sure others would.  I have written hundreds of crochet patterns which I sold on Etsy for four years but knitting patterns seem so different to me.  The wooden buttons are super duper easy.  The next time I will buff and polish them and perhaps distress them a bit but like I said, it was done just in the nick of time.

I can safely post these pictures here because even though I warned my Momma in the last post about this hat, to stop reading, she didn’t.  Not only did she read it but she even left me a comment to let me know she had.  She is naughty that woman!!  I love her!  So, Mami, if you are reading this, enjoy it and enjoy your time in New York.  No one deserves it more than you.

I’ll be back tomorrow to show you how to make the wooden buttons at my Stash Bash and if you have a project you have made from your stash of materials, come back here tomorrow and share it with everyone.

Yarning along again this week.  Hope you are meeting your Christmas craft goals.
