Ripping and writing – a new knitting pattern

I haven’t yarned along with Ginny for a long time but lately, I have been knitting and reading, every night and every quiet chance I get.  I think I have finally gotten into more of a normal routine with Matthew. Really all that means is that I have learned to live on very little sleep…very little.

I have been working on a new cardigan for Matthew.  After many many start overs and frogging episodes, I think I am done and working up the last version with not so expensive yarn.  After working it up it seems a bit girlier than I imagined, though I do love it so, but probably not for Matthew. We will see.

I have been reading another Joel Salatin book,  Folks, this ain’t normal.  Seriously, as a farmer, I love everything Joel has ever written!  His books are the perfect mix of comedy and common plus not so common sense.  I read the chapter on what children used to get accomplished in comparison to what little they are “able” or allowed to do now to the kids and their ears were glued to my reading.  Great stuff, really!

Today, there is much to do in the garden.  We are turning beds over and getting all the watermelon and  sweet potatoes seedlings in the ground.  Lots of weeding to accomplish and herbs to process.  See you tomorrow!  I have a secret to share which is very exciting!

Stripes and colors

A few weeks ago, I remembered the sunsuit (Rav notes here) I started knitting for Livie nearly a year ago while pregnant with Matthew.  I even remembered that it was still in the bag I packed it in after our vacation to Miami Beach.  Does anyone else do this, I mean stash projects away like squirrels stash nuts in trees?  I have no idea how many half finished projects I even have somewhere around here, glad I remembered this one.

I frogged it since she has undoubtedly grown since last summer and I would like it to fit her for sometime.  Ripping it out and starting over was not frustrating, I actually enjoy starting patterns over since I already know what to expect.

I am loving these colors.  They remind me of my favorite shirt growing up in the 80’s.  Not sure if it’s the stripes or the colors.  Olivia asks me a few times a day if she may put it on, even though it is only an inch bigger than the last time she inspected my work.  The yarn is Cascade Yarns Fixation and very stretchy  which I love and hate.  Love it because it feels nice when knitting and hate it because I worry that my tension is off and my stitches will not be even.  I am thinking that I will need to buy more of this yarn to make some matching headbands for Erica and Ronnie.  So cute!!  And what could be cuter than a pair of leg warmers to match the headband.  Does it get any more 80’s than that?

We are in the middle of quite a bad storm and not sure what we will do with Miss Tilly if indeed we get a tropical storm this way.  I have been told that it is best to let her out to protect herself…difficult decisions that I hope to not have to make.  As far as everyone else on this farm, the chickens will stay shut up in their coops, the piggie has a nice roof over his head, all bunnies will be cozy inside and we humans shall find something to do in bad weather.  Me?  I will be knitting a sunsuit.
