on the fourth

This year we partied at home which was very different from our trip to Miami Beach last year, especially since Alexandra and Lewis are on a road trip and we are celebrating without her for the first time ever and Ronnie is still at her Godparent’s house though from her daily reports, she seems to be living the good life.

I woke up in the early morning going over my to do list for our party at 1 PM and decided to add some last minute Momma made Farmer girl skirts.  They were super easy to put together.  Mine is made from a vintage bed sheet which really cut down on sewing time since I was able to take advantage of the large seamed edge for the bottom of my skirt.

For Livie’s skirt I actually had bought some fabric to make a new 4th of July bunting since our old one has gone missing and never did make it so instead I used one of the fabrics to make her a little skirt just like mine.  I may still make that bunting since I usually leave up all red, white and blue decorations throughout July.

The weather did not really cooperate, it never actually does on July 4th.  I can’ really remember one 4th of July where it did not rain and this year it not only rained but it poured.  The day was pretty gray or wet or both.  We took cover in the barn/bar and everyone made the best of it.  At least it was nice and cool out.  We spent hours talking, laughing, eating and setting off an arsenal of fireworks the likes of which we have never seen.  One of Poppa’s friends is to thank for that and I am sure that there were no fireworks left to buy at the store after the amount that his friends brought to our party.

We had blue cheese burgers, sausages, apple pie, lots of fruit and for the adults… jello shots.  The final guests left around 1 in the morning and today we are taking it slow.  How was your holiday?

Come back tomorrow for some super exciting blog news.

All on a Mother’s Day

I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday.  Mother’s day is my day!!  Everyone around here knows it and they go all out to make sure I feel it.

I spent the last few days working on a plan of what I would do with my day in bed.  Could I use that time to work on this here blog, start a new knitting project, finish up an old one, read one of the many books that are waiting on a stack next to my bed, take a nap????

I did have to get up a bit earlier to milk Matilda.  The kids took care of all other farm chores and then we were all off to morning mass.  Poppa and Nick went to the earlier mass to get home and start on Mother’s day breakfast and by the time we got back home, it was all ready.

I was told that I was to march straight upstairs, put on jammies and jump in bed!  Yes Sir!!  I can definitely get on board with that one.  I walked into my room to find a sweet little note from Erica waiting on my pillow followed by all the kids bringing up the cards they made me.  Sweet I tell ya!

A wonderful breakfast in bed followed.  I spent the morning and afternoon just catching up on everyone else’s blog that I so dearly love but have not had time to visit in a while.  Hey, you ladies have been very busy!

Alexandra came over in the early evening and we watched 3 episodes of Call the Midwife, we ate dinner in bed, were brought many drinks, ice cream and snacks and all at the behest of a cow bell.  Alexandra them gave me one of the best gifts I have gotten in a long time…a book full of the most amazing pictures that she took of Matthew.  We are affectionately calling it The Book of Matthew.

A beautiful little bouquet of wild flowers picked by Olivia and lots of hugs and “you are the best momma ever” remarks and I was in heaven.

No knitting took place and that is OK but there was a lovely little nap taken with my favorite girl just like in the old days (before she got married).  I also received a great gift!  Poppa purchased my domain name for me as a surprise so the blog name thing has been resolved (more on that soon).

This morning it was all business as usual again which is fine with me since it is the business that I love, watering veggies, taking care of our animals, hanging the diapers on the line, putting up some jam and cooking.  All in a days work.
