This week :

wedding invitations were addressed, stamped and sent out,  the stamps were ordered from Stamps.com with Alexandra and Lewis’ picture on them

had a sudden influx of eggs from the chicken, very rare in summer since they usually slow down production

zested a huge pile of lemons to make the limoncello for Christmas.  It has to ferment for about 90 days so if we don’t do it now, we will not have any yummy homemade liquer for the holidays

started to go through the kids artwork and frame my favorite pieces for the upstairs hallway wall

put the buffet/side board in the foyer up for sale.  Hated to see it go but we have too much furniture and we have been moving away from the formal look for a few years.  The dining room is next since we have again outgrown our dining room table.  It will be replaced with a more rustic farm table and long shelves on one of the walls to hold my pyrex collection and serving pieces

finished baby beans hat, will share it on Wednesday

enjoyed many delicious meals made by my budding chef Nick.  This is the only one I took a picture of but the flavor was restaurant quality.  Out of nowhere he started wanting to cook and everything he has made has been absolutely amazing

our well pump broke and we are still at this moment without water.  Luckily we were able to catch some water as the water supply dwindled to nothing.  We set aside enough water for drinking, flushing toilets and brushing teeth.  The boys however, did have to bucket brigade more water this morning down from the pond in order to flush the morning toilets.  We are hoping the fix will not be too expensive.

last night it started to rain so I sent the smaller, slightly dirtier kids out with a bar of Dr Bronners to bathe in the rain.  As you see this turned into a game of chase each other with the soap but it made this inconvenience much more fun for them.

we got to use our great big enamelware water jug.  It is all the water we have for use other than drinking.  It has been interesting to see the kids figure out how to use less water.  Hoping for a quick fix because the laundry is growing.

These days…My weekly journal

This week I

was surprised by an Alex made breakfast of wonderfully aromatic and crispy french toast.

watched Livie all of a sudden become completely enamored with ballerinas.  She has been watching ballerinas on tv, in books and has not taken off her sisters ballet outfit all week.  The only time she wore something else was while I washed her outfit a few times.  The hair is always crazy but I love to see her just running around without a care in the world

went hunting w four of the kids to garage sales which produced a few vintage canning jars, one with a glass lid (need to find more of these) some beautifully embroidered pillow cases for the girls beds from an estate sale, a vintage apron with the sweetest red border (why do I love red so much?)

had a momma’s day out w a good friend,  a visit to Ikea and a few thrift stores, great conversation and time to unwind made for a great day

celebrated Christopher’s 6th birthday. Christopher was my surprise baby, born at home in the bathroom by mistake.  He has always been a ball of energy.  He has never walked, preferring to jump, run and bounce everywhere. He has all of a sudden turned into a cleaning machine, asking for what other chores he can do to help out on a daily basis.  I came home from my day out to find Nicholas baking and decorating a spiderman cake for his brother with no help from anyone.  I think it came out great and it touches my heart to see how my children love each other

have been enjoying the rain lately which is sometimes followed by amazing promises from God in the form of a double rainbow

went out with Poppa on a date night and ended up on a game show at a wings place.

found a flower press at a yard sale which the girls have been using daily.

pulled out all the bins of clothing where I keep the outgrown clothing that is waiting to fit the next child. We reorganized them, getting rid of what we don’t truly love and finding lots of dresses for Livie.  Every dress I pulled out came with it the memories of my older girls when they wore them.  Some of the dresses that fit her now are size 6 and 7…my baby is only 3.

worked on a few baby projects including the wool papoose.
