Surprise weekend getaway

This actually happened a few weeks ago but I had not gotten around to posting it.  In all the years of raising our clan of 10 Poppa and I have only gone away I think once…when we renewed our vows and that only lasted one day because we went back to get the kids on the second day and take them with us on our honeymoon getaway.  It had been over 12 years since we actually spent a night away alone. For no apparent reason, he decided to suprise me with a weekend getaway.  With an 18 year old at home this seems like something we could actually do and get away with..hee-hee.

Now my husband has never been a planner.  He is a last minute type guy so imagine my surprise all weekend when he had planned everything from where we would eat, visit, even to having champagne chilling in our penthouse suite! sweet!  We went an hour away to Orlando, Florida (you know where Disney World is) which was just far enough away to be well, away.

looking down from the penthouse (did I ever mention I was scared of heights)

this is a dress which I refashioned from a not so pretty dress… hmm maybe I should have shared that project, huh?

he would not stop taking pictures : ) Note: I am not responsible if you are blinded by my super white legs

we ate at a really good Irish Pub called Raglan

 black and tan Kilkenny

I vow to try and duplicate this at home, it was that amazing.  What they call “stone bread” topped with grilled salmon, grape tomatoes, goat cheese and water cress…I could eat this all day.  The bread was crispy like a cracker and so good…anybody know how to make this?

this is where we get into our super hero outfits if someone had needs help
a walk down a street in Celebration, Florida.  So pretty!
and he took me to an art fair…swoon. Did I tell you that he really thought this through?

where I totally fell in love with this painting by an amazing artist named Rob Kaz.  Um, is that $4,000 dollars???

On our weekend out, we got to reconnect and remember why we started this whirlwind life in the first place, we laughed and talked and I am sure we will do it again soon.  Have you gotten to get away with your beloved lately?

Little town parade

Have I ever told you that I love living in our little town?  Besides the fact that we have lots of open spaces, nice people and less traffic, our little town has a cute Christmas parade.  This year we bundled up and headed out to our downtown.

Here is my little Christmas dumpling with candy cane all over her face.

I think from the looks of it, most of our town showed up too.  There were alot of people there.

A great start to Christmas week.
