Yarn Along- Vintage Rag rug

Last week while waisting time in an antique store with Livie (while the kids were at play pratice) I found this little gem which has now sparked a new love in me.

It was sitting folded at the bottom of an old cabinet, for who knows how long, tucked away in the dark.  I felt it before I saw it and at first thought it was some kind of pot holder or seat cushion.  When I brought it out to the light of day, it captured my heart.  It is the only thing I bought that day and I got a good price for it because it was coming apart but knowing that it was just crochet, I adopted it and have been working on it.

I have not yet decided where it will go, maybe next to baby beans crib, but definitely somewhere that it won’t be under heavy and dirty foot traffic.

Everytime I have sat with this project, I have wondered how old it is and where it might have come from.  Many of the fabrics seem to be old feed sacks and I just love them.  Every stitch I add to it makes me want to start a new one from scratch which has made me look at old unwanted pieces of clothing or any fabric in a different way.  Probably in the same way that the person who made this rag rug felt about fabric, don’t waste it.

As soon as I feel this little treasure is done, I plan to start a new one and will document the pattern I use to create a tutorial.

Isn’t it lovely?

Yarning (or fabricking) along this week again and joining my beautiful friend Nicole at Frontier Dreams.  I hope to see you here tomorrow for the Stash Bash, won’t you please come over?

These days..my weekly journal

After looking at so many old pictures and sharing some with you, I was surprised at how many details I remembered and how many I have probably forgotten.  I have decided to chronical our lives a little better by having a weekly rememberance of what went on that week.

This week:

I spent a few days in bed because of a pulled stomach muscle

Processed 13 cans of local muscadine grape jam (recipe coming soon)

Finished a sleepy soaker for baby bean

Studied with the kids for their final exams of the year

Dreamt of all the wonderful things to do this summer

made a cake for Poppas meeting with my favorite baking assistant

Did alot of dreaming and planning for our vacation week at the beach next week

Wondering what in the world I will do about a maternity swim suit that is modest

Picked the last of this years blueberries

Went to our favorite corn farm for fresh sweet local corn

Went thrifting with the kids

Found three board games for our summer of fun, old school Parcheesi, Operation and Topple, all complete and the three cost less than $5

Found a beautiful 100% wool blanket which will be loved this winter

Adopted a vintage rocking chair which was love at first sit.  It needs to be reupholstered but I want to leave the chipped paint as is because I swear, this chair was speaking to me and it has alot of stories to tell

Enjoyed the rhythmic sound of rain on the roof for 3 whole days
